Program Overview for Agencies

At Rising Tide, referrals from Case Managers are critical for finding great residents with urgent needs for housing. We thank you for your support as a valued partner in providing housing solutions for Alameda County!

This page contains the info you (and your client) need to know before applying, and the steps involved in the application and intake process.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO LIVE AT RISING TIDE?

These are our current program preferences and requirements, which may change as more residences open.

  • We prioritize Case Manager / Social Worker referrals.
We prefer that potential residents have a social worker or case manager, who will vouch for the client, assist them in the application process, and act as point of contact should a problem arise down the road.

  • We prioritize applicants on government or charitable subsidies.
This serves as a proof of income instead of a credit check, and takes away some of the uncertainty of self-pay. Applicants must provide documentation, and are also asked to set up a direct deposit / representative payee account for payments to Rising Tide.

  • Residents must be self sufficient.
Our first homes will be occupied by those who possess the skills and mindset necessary for independent living. Prospective residents should be capable of maintaining personal hygiene (showering, brushing teeth, doing laundry), preparing their own meals, and handling household chores independently as well as cleaning up after themselves. They should also have the disposition to get along with others in the home, and possess some skills for conflict resolution.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO LIVE AT RTR?

Every home and every experience is different, but here are some common threads…

  • Our homes are beautiful, comfortable, functional and stable.
We have selected properties that are a big step above other shared housing. Our homes are clean, have modern amenities like wi-fi, digital tv, and laundry machines on-site, and are designed to help residents on their journey to self-sufficiency.

  • RTR is housing first.
Although our mission may evolve over time,  we are currently focused on providing housing, not services. Residents are welcome to meet any service providers onsite, but access, scheduling and advocacy are up to the resident and their support system.

  • We enforce a structured environment that emphasizes accountability.
With a large number of residents in one place, order and structure create comfort for all. Residents are expected to follow our House Rules, established to foster harmony and ensure equality in shared resources. Failure to adhere to the rules will result in expulsion, without exception.

I THINK MY CLIENT IS A GOOD FIT. WHAT’S NEXT?

The next steps are to evaluate program and get on our waiting list…

  • Review the program with your client and make sure they’re interested and appropriate for the program. You can send them a link to the program requirements and House Rules.

  • Fill out the application together. You will need to disclose income and funding for the client, and will be asked to provide proof of these subsidies.

  • Submit the application. The application will be reviewed by RTR. If it’s accepted, client will be added to the RTR waiting list.

When openings become available, the application process will continue…

  • Client will be asked to provide updated income / funding sources

  • RTR will interview the applicant to evaluate if they’re still a good candidate for the program and appropriate placement.

  • Applicant may be approved but still have to wait for an opening.

When a placement is identified we will welcome you into our home! We’ll begin the intake process, which includes the lease agreement, payment of deposit, and setting up a representative payee account.
