Program Overview for Applicants

Thank you for your interest in Rising Tide Residences!

All are encouraged to apply. And although approval and placement are not guaranteed, we hope to have the right spot for you.

The details below outline our program and requirements. Our homes and the policies we follow are created to promote success and harmony for our residents, and allow us to expand our impact to help more people.

It’s a more structured environment, so we’d like you to understand how our program works and what is expected of residents before you apply.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO LIVE AT RISING TIDE?

Rising Tide is community living. It’s a built-in support system, but it requires intention to make the household harmonious. Here are some of the notable features:

  • Sharing is caring.
Private rooms are available, but bedrooms and bathrooms are often shared.

  • Everyone contributes.
All members of the household do their part for the care and upkeep of the home.

  • Practice respect and accountability.
Residents take an active role in supporting one another and maintaining harmony in the home. House Rules ensure that everyone’s on the same page.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO LIVE AT RISING TIDE?

Although these aren’t firm requirements, we are currently giving preference to applicants with these characteristics (subject to change):

  • Applicants who are referred by a social service agency, and have a Case Manager assigned.
Your Case Manager has referred you to Rising Tide because they believe you are a good fit for our program. They must vouch for you and get involved if any problems come up.

  • You are collecting subsidies / assistance from the government or other charitable organization.
This serves as a proof of income instead of a credit check, showing that you are receiving government subsidies (such as SSI or SSDI) and/or assistance from a social service agency.

Additionally, these characteristics and agreements are required from all residents:

  • You must be self sufficient. You must have the skills and mindset necessary for independent living. You should be capable of self care and hygiene on your own, without reminders from others, such as: bathing / brushing teeth, taking medications, etc.

  • Keep clothes & bedding clean / do laundry

  • Prepare your own meals

  • Complete household chores

  • Clean up after yourself

  • Get along well with others in the home, and resolve conflicts when they happen

  • Follow House Rules and be accountable for your actions. These rules ensure harmony and equity in shared resources.  Failure to follow the rules will result in warnings and possibly eviction.

THINK YOU’RE A GOOD FIT FOR THE PROGRAM?

We’d love to hear from you! To be considered, please follow these steps:

  • If you have a Case Manager, talk to them about this program and fill out the application together

  • Apply online. Share basic info about yourself here. The application will be reviewed by RTR and they’ll contact you and potentially set up a tour

  • Collect your documentation. We will ask about your income and funding / subsidies you receive, as well as proof of these subsidies

  • Get approved. We’ll set up a tour and interview to determine if you are a good fit for Rising Tide and the best placement

  • Apply for rental assistance. Residents must provide the first month’s rent and security deposit (equal to one month’s rent) before moving in. Plan ahead - assistance may take 4-6 weeks to complete and payment is released. See our list of applicant resources for potential rental assistance.

When openings become available, the application process will continue…

  • We will ask you to provide updated income / funding sources

  • You may be approved but still have to wait for an opening.

When a placement is identified we will welcome you into our home! We’ll begin the intake process, which includes the lease agreement, security deposit, and payment.
